| I decided to build my first AR and am having issues. I purchased a DPMS lower and Bushmaster lower parts kit. Everything was going fine until I put the hammer in. For some reason it is not releasing when I pull the trigger. It will release if the hammer pin is not fully inserted, but when it is all the way inserted I pull the trigger and nothing happens. I am a complete newbie so any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much! |
| I just checked the disconnector spring and it is fine. It seems like the holes on the reciever are off. The hammer is rubbing against the front of the reciever and is not allowed to release. When I pull the trigger the hammer releases, but does not sling forward. |
How far does it go? What is catching it? Typically, I would say the disconnector is catching it.... but it sounds like your hammer or lower is out of spec, and contacting and stopping the hammer? If this is the case, once you pull the trigger, keeping the trigger pulled, can you grab the hammer and pull it up the rest of the way, pulling it past where it is rubbing? If so, look for marks on the lower and hammer. First, try removing metal from the hammer surface, or better yet, swap with a known good hammer. If it hangs, then your lower is out of spec. I would suspect the hammer first, however, and it is the cheaper part to try and replace. If you are in DFW, I got lots of spare parts and can help ya out. |

When I pull the trigger all it does is release from the disconnector. I can then manually pull it up, but there is tension. When I take the hammer out there is a place where it is rubbing on the very bottom where it is rubbing against the front of the lower. Thank you very much for your help. I am actually in Austin. If you have a hammer that you know works I could send you money via paypal or other ways if you could ship it to me. If this is not the case is DPMS good about replacing a part that is out of spec, or should I talk with the gun dealer that I purchased it from? Thanks for everything. |
Whoa nelly! I am sure this is just a semantics problem... but when you pull the trigger, the hammer does NOT release formt he disconnector. The disconnector only comes into play when the hammer comes back, and you still have the trigger pulled. For example.... pull the trigger. Hold the trigger back. Push the hammer all the way back until it is held in place. This is the disconnector holding it. Then release the trigger. There will be a slight "click" of the disconnector releasing the hammer, and the hammer being caught by the trigger bar. The trigger bar engagement surface is now holding the hammer back. When you pull the trigger, the hammer falls from the trigger bar, not the disconnector. Ok, now that we have that straight:
IM me your address and I will send you a spare hammer you can test with, for free. It is a good working hammer, but it's been "honed" and I dont like it.... feels gritty, so I just keep it for a spare, but it will tell you for sure if your hammer or lower is outa spec. |
