I have two older Colt Ar-15's.  A HBAR and a Gov't carbine.  Both very preban.  All this talk about 5.56 vs .223 chambers got me to looking.  The receivers say .223 but the barrels are stamped 5.56 in front of the front sight tower.  Which should I beleive.  Additionally I recently picked up a postban lightweight Bushmaster barrel is it .223 or 5.56?

Worry not.  They're all 5.56 chambers. I don't even think Colt has a .223 chambering reamer in the house

The same with the Bushie barrel

shamayim is correct.

In the 70's and to the mid 80's Colt would stamp .223 on their AR-15 lowers, even though the chambers were all actually 5.56mm.

Just another (of many) reasons to but a Colt!
