What makes the RRA lower 'tight'?  Is it the take down pin hole location?  Is it the shelf?  What causes the tightness?

Thank you in advance.

It is the thickness of the walls at the takedown hole.  Usually these are a few thousands thicker that most lowers.  I haven't heard of anyone having problems with the pivot hole.  I didn't with mine.   And the shelf should not cause a problem.

The 2 I put together were both tight.  I used a little oil, and kept pushing the upper into the well and pulling it back until they went together.  The nice thing is, there is no movement between  the upper and lower.  After a couple hundred rounds, it becomes easier to put them together.

It's the RRA commitment to quality . I just bought another RRA lower yesterday for my no ban build because the first one I built with is such a good receiver .

Except that, although they build them tighter inside, they also build them narrower on the outside----and that means that other brand uppers overhang the lower when you put them together

I don't mind a lower being slightly wider than the upper, but it bugs the fire out of me when it's the reverse, and and the upper is wider.  That being said, I'll probably pick up another RR lower when I go to the show today, because of the two dealers who sell lowers over the counter around here, one sells Century pieces for more money than the other, who sells Rock River pieces---and they're both made in the same plant.

Of course, I realize I'm kind of a nut case about things like over hang at the edges.  Bought a Bushmaster barrel last month, and it came with the rivet that secures the front sling awivel inserted left to right, instead of right to left.  Really tried to live with that, for a month, but it just drove me nuts. Yesterday I drove the damn thing out and reversed it

I put a no name upper on a RockRiver lower and the only place they hit was at the very rear of the "lug", it touched the curved, rear-most area of the lowers machined out recess.

(Did that make any sense????  Me speeky most goodly English.)

A few licks with a fine file took care of it.

CMT

Got a bunch of RRA among others - all excellent.
Some are tighter than others, but all are good to go!

When used with a large hole Colt upper and offset pin, it WILL NOT pivot.
I built a SP1 clone and I have to knock both pins out and take the receivers apart,
no pivoting.
Works great and looks cool, though.
