| how do I remove the A2 stock without breaking something? |
|
Separate the upper and lower. With the hammer cocked, depress the buffer retainer and remove the buffer and spring. There are two screws on the back of the stock. Remove the top one with a screw driver. Slide the stock off the buffer tube. Now unscrew the buffer tube from the lower. The armorer's wrench is handy because it gives you a convenient way to lossen the tube. Most of the ones I've seen aren't all that tight but some are. Make sure to keep your finger on the buffer retainer while you are removing the tube, or it will go flying. You might want to wear safety glasses for the same reason. |

If you are removing the buffer tube as well as the stock, use Liquid Wrench or other good penetrating oil on the buffer tube threads first, and let it soak for a couple of hours. Buffer tubes can be a pain to remove. The rear of the tube--wrench flats-- won't take much pressure from a wrench before it starts to round off, since it's aluminum. You can also use a plumber's strap wrench to turn and remove the buffer tube. That is the way I do it. Make sure you have a way to hold the lower receiver before you attempt the job. If you don't have a helper you can lay the lower flat on a work table--pad it well--and hold it with one arm (foot?) while removing the tube with the other hand. Remember lefty loosey...righty tighty.... |
