I am getting an LRB lower receiver and that's 120 or so. I prefer a 20 inch setup with no iron sights..... so what is the downright cheapest way to go. I figure dpms? Am i right? I DO NOT know how to put one of these together.... I can field strip, but that's about it. The lower might as well be a chinese novel to me.......... So I'd have to pay someone to do it for me...... I figure I'm willing, on a 20 inch upper kit, to go 350 or so, then replace the front sight post with a railed gas block...total cost is then 500 bucks or so...... |

Model 1. Cheapest chrome-lined kits you can get. Assembling the lower receiver is a piece of cake, so I've heard. I won't be doing it since the only way to get the Cavarms lower warranty is to buy one preassembled |

Ameetec sells them for $205. I don't know how many colors Ameetec offers though. They are a pistol grip, lower and buttstock (A1 length, 5/8" shorter than A2) all in one. They are a full pound lighter than a normal forged lower and an A2 buttstock. They are backed by a lifetime warranty so they are replaced for free if they have defects, and if it breaks due to an accident, fire, car wreck, whatever they replace it for $30 plus shipping. Best damn warranty ever IHMO. Can you tell I want one badly? Cavalry Arms also sells them with whole rifles, I hear they are pretty good, and they're well priced. I'm building my own upper anyway, so I'm just going with their lower. Their 16" upper use a mid-length system instead of a CAR, which I think is cool. |

Assembling the lower takes some practice so as to not scratch the finish. Plus you need the right tools. But you should be able to do it on a budget, I Just bought a Model 1 sales, lightweight 16" barrel and it shoots just fine. If you cant find anyone to help assemble your lower, I would do it free of charge, BUT you would need to send it to my FFL dealer, and back, so you are looking at about a $50 charge total. Maybe there is someone in your area willing to help? Anyway, if you need any help, my email is [email protected]. Good luck, and be safe! |

Putting the lower together isn't hard at all with the guide on this site. My dad and I did one each this past weekend (J&T kit, mega lower..aprox $550) When it came to AR's, I was pretty much an untrained monkey, and so was my dad. And we just used his tools (he's an electrician) and we never had a scratch. Just be cautious. Curt |
| I prefer (and bought) an Olympic Arms kit. Get it here. The upper is preassembled and test fired. A little reassurance that it's put together right. |
Del-ton had Oly for awhile but not sure if they still stock Oly. I believe they put their own uppers together and sell DPMS and Armalite. www.del-ton.com fac/gunsnstuff has dpms uppers and maybe Oly, but you need to check that the item is instock over the phone before ordering Cheaper than Dirt might have DPMS uppers Model One M&A Atlantic Firearms has Oly uppers and maybe DPMS CMMG has DPMS uppers |
