Just wondering how loose the trigger pin should be. It seems rather immovable when in battery and then loosens up after the hammer drops. Is this normal? Thanks.

Yes,its the spring pressure and the tail of the hammer spring in the trigger pin groove that holds every thing in and the hammers internal J pin that sits on the middle groove of the hammer pin. When the hammer is in the fired posistion the trigger should have a little left to right movement. When the lower is stripped the pins pass right through the holes freely with slight resistance but not enough to stop the pins.If you can ever push out the pin easily wether the hammer is in or out of battery its time to replace the spring or hammer because of a weak J pin.

So the hammer spring tail(?) should lie on top of trigger pin and not on the bottom of the reciever?

yes its very important that way the pin cant walk and there is sufficent tension for the hammer. The tails should both be resting on the left and right top of the trigger pin tails pointing to the rear of the receiver and one tail will catch the trigger pin groove wether its on the left or right hand side thats why it dosent matter wich waty the pin goes in both trigger and hammer pins are identical. So redo the spring the tails should not be as you described
