AR newbie here and I am sure this is an easy question. What is the difference between a .223 and a 7.62x39 stripped upper? Thanks in advance, Travis

Unless I am mistaken, NONE.
I think the upper differences doesn't apply until we begin talking about the bolt, carrier and barrel.

I believe that one destined to go on an AR 47 lower (to take AK mags) has to be relieved in the rear portion, but for a standard lower, the only difference will be if it was marked "7.62x39".
