These are my two newest builds. I've had my fun with the M4/gadget carbines and I'm in the middle of an SPR build, but I had some extra parts laying around and decided to finish up a couple of simpler AR's.
I finished this one a few months ago. I had a postban DPMS 16" HBAR barrel collecting dust and a set of Colt M4 HG's in my "great big box o'crap" in the garage. I picked up an RRA flattop receiver and mated it with a preban Oly lower:
I finished this one today. It's basically a home-built 20" RRA A4 rifle. RRA upper/lower/furniture. I picked up the barrel at a show and it's unmarked. I'm not sure who made it, but it's 1:9 twist and non-chrome lined. If/when the ban goes away, I've got a nice gov't profile preban barrel w/A2 to mount on this one.
Offhand with XM193 and iron sights, both of them were able to hit 8" gongs at 300m easily. From bags, I was able to print 1.75" - 2.00" groups at 100m. I'm sure I could do better if I worked on the triggers a bit. I've gotten spoiled by the RRA NM triggers in my other AR's.
After spending the past 18 months hunting/buying/trading gadgets and accesories, it's refreshing to take one of these "plain old rifles" to the firing line. I had forgotten how much fun they were.

Nice porn, but your " plain carbine " beats my post ban plain carbine hands down.

Nice to see some "clean" rifles for a change.
The current generation of "gadget guns" now require that the shooter wear thick leather gloves to prevent injuries from all the sharp-edged crap being attached to the rifle.
