I have been wanting to purchase an AR for a long time and while at the gun show today looking for a Sig 229, I purchased a Rock River Arms NM lower.  I know of the RRA quality and reputation, I already have one of their 1911's and it is outstanding.

My question is:  is there an advantage to the RRA Elevated Optics Platform (EOP) on their uppers?  I do not want an A2 style upper and originally had a flat top in mind for the upper.  I am looking at their varmint upper and I do not want a long barrel, but some how I feel the 16" is too short.  What is your opinion on barrel length?  The rifle will be used for target shooting, 100 to 150 yards.

And lastly, what is the .223 Wylde chamber they have listed and can you shoot .223/5.56 NATO in a Wylde chambered upper?

Thanks for the help, real new to this game.

The EOP is a matter of taste, so it boils down to what you like.

The Wylde chamber is a compromise chambering and will shoot .223 or 5.56mm fine, I believe it's supposed to be more accurate than the standard military 5.56mm chambering.
