| I was on Model1Sales.com looking for a complete upper half. Upon ordering it had the options on what you wanted. The question I had is what is the difference between 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem? and which one is best recommended? thanks! |

Military : 5.56 Civilian : .223 Both are the same bullet size and case size. The military 5.56 marked guns have a little more spacing in the chamber to allow for the case to expand. The military rounds tend to be a little hot so they make the chamber a little bigger to allow for proper extraction of the spent case. 223 marketed barrels have a little tighter chamber for better accuracy. Depending on what you think is accurate you might not care. I know guys who think anything 2 inches or less at 100 yards is the greatest shooting they have ever seen. I'm more of a 1/2 inch kind of guy. Edit: I'm not saying a 5.56 chamber will only give 2 inch MOA, just that 223 is better for accuracy. 5.56 can give you 1/2inch groups too. |

Read up on this "chamber" issue here: www.ammo-oracle.com and unless your intending on a Varmint or Long Range application go w/ the chrome bore and barreled 5.56 chambered rifle. FWIW alot of [newbie] info is "tacked" to the tops of different forums especially to get you "up to speed"...., welcome aboard [beer] Mike |
