What is the best receiver to serve as the foundation of a "perfect" AR? Consider also that the 6.8 uppers will be coming out this year and having that option will be of no little consideration (understand that little info is available so play the percentages). Thanks. Wolf |

I have one of the SOCOM MFG. billet aluminum, completely machined lower. Just got done with the build and I have to say that it appears to be the most solid I've found. The drawbacks however are that it wont accecpt some of your poly-mags (only sucks 'cause I got a ton of them for a song), won't allow for a "ambi" selector switch, and the $300.00+ price tag. Nice peice of work though. Draven ----------------------------------- If you go first....we're splitting your gear. |

Funny you should ask. You get what you pay for. I bought one of the >$90 Eagle Arms receivers. Although I haven't had the problems that some other guys have (and Armalite has been quick to fix) I have not been impressed with the quality. The trigger area has mold and machine marks. The front of the mag well has the same. I see no indication that it won't function, but it is not of the quality of an RRA, or Bushy. I'm not slamming the Eagle Arms as it was an outstanding price. I was at a gun show today and was impressed with the quality of the forged DPMS receivers. The finest receiver I have seen at any show was made by CMT. It was clean, had no machine marks, and had a beautiful finish. If I were building a "perfect" AR I'd start with something I could inspect for machine marks and finish. And definitely don't go by price. |

I have assembled 4 RRA lowers to kits and parts in the last few month, and a Double Star tonight. The Double Star seems to be the best quality and fit, but the finish doesnt match most uppers well(It is grey rather than Black). But the finish was fantastic much better than RRA. NO need to remove burrs or any type of sanding or cleaning to the machined areas and holes. |

The Dimond series from SOCOM MFG had no machine marks. The finish is flawless. For the build that I did...it was a bit of overkill. The fellow that I spoke to at Brownells said that most of them he sells are going to build competion grade shooters. The thing that attracted me to it was the extra meat around all pin locations and stock mount. I have looked at 3 of them side by side and you cant tell them apart....except that one of them had a red anodize finish on it. (offered in red, white, blue, and black....I chose the black). Watch out if you get one though...they come "shrunk wraped to a peice of cardboard...and all the alan head set screws are loose in the mag well. Spent one hour plus on floor of gun shop with surefire looking for one screw. Page one of Brownells.
