| I just bought an m4 kit from Model-1. I just wanted to ask the pros about which receiver would work best on my new toy. I know there are the staples of the industry (Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, etc.), but taking both price and quality into consideration what would be best? Also, what is the difference in a standard and small pin lower? (please don't answer "the size of the holes" no one likes a smart ass) Thanks for the help. |

Without question the best deal going in lower receivers right now is the Eagle Arms unit that Quantico Arms is sell for $75 each. This lower is as good or better than any and you can't beat the Price. Eagle Arms, is made by Armalite so technically you would be getting a lower made by one of the top three. Small hole\large hole is a reference to Colt lowers. I won't go into the whole thing but basically Colt feels it's OK to make non-military spec lowers. You won't have to deal with this from any other company. |
| I can not awnser your question about the holes, but for lowers I have seen great reviews for the following (mega, stinger, eagle, and rra) im sure if you do a search you can find out more info on these lowers, I myself am looking to build a AR and i have opted for the mega lower, havent decided where to get the kit from yet though. Besides i need the money 1st hehe. anyways i hope this helps with the search for your lower. hunter121 |
| I bought 5 Eagle Arms lowers. I put a Colt kit in one and a DPMS in the other. They both went together just fine. I am saving the other three in the safe for a rainy day. I put a Bushy upper on one with a perfect fit. My Model One upper fit "almost" as good. The color was a little off but I have never cared about that anyway. That rifle is going to get painted desert tan anyway. |
| I built one a while back using an Eagle Arms/ Armalite lower (stamped with both names). It currently wears a flat top upper from Model 1, fit is very good and finish color is fairly close (if that matters a whole lot). $75 is a very good price (I paid $125 at a 1998 gunshow). Also in process of building an AR on a Rock River lower paid $100 OTD as compared to an Eagle lower I saw at the same time for $180. The RRA lower looks just as good as the Eagle lower (FYI, black finish is very closed comparing the RRA lower and Model 1 upper I have) I'd recomend either or, based on price. |

Just an FYI: I built up my receiver from Quantico Arms and it went together so well I thought I was missing something. It was absolutely perfect in every way and, while I have a good set of 'smith tools, all I needed was a kitchen knife and small punch (LOL)......oh yeah, also a big plastic bag. I did carefully read all the hints about using one to protect against launching the detents but do you think I'd follow that suggestion?? Of course not. At least not until I launched my first one almost into orbit but was able to track its trajectory, 20 feet away! The bag came out immediately after that. Anyway, it's a great build and the trigger could not feel better, period. I put in a lower parts kit from J&T Distributing, btw, which was beautifully machined and precision fit. The rest of the parts arriving this week and we should have a good shooter by Friday at the latest. Rome |
