Hi,

Who makes the best lower/upper receiver out there?  I'm planning on building an M4 and only want to use the best materials.  I'm also looking for any recommendations on barrels and other parts.

Thanks and Happy New Year

On an AR, the single most important part in terms of function and reliability is the barrel.  I recommend a quality, chrome-lined barrel, which means either Colt or Bushmaster.  After that, the rest of the parts really don't matter all that much.

I am well pleased with my Amralite upper. I ordered it from Del-ton some time ago.  If I was purchasing a stripped lower today, I would definitely get an Eagle (Armalite) lower from Quatico.   GOOD LUCK!!!!

I am very pleased with the Rock River Arms lower receiver from Eagle Firearms, Chris is a good guy to do business with, to go with that I got my kit from M&A Parts, excellent products and service from both companies.

The DPMS are nice and black and teflon coated unlike the RRA.

I agree, the barrel is the big part, get a chrome lined Colt, Armalite or Bushmaster. I don think any of the big name receivers will have any problems.

Here is a reasonably priced receiver:

The few I have seen were nice and I have not heard any complaints even though they do not have a "big name" on them.

Yup, the barrel is the important thing, next to the trigger.  If the pull is too heavy...

Well, you know the saying about "big names".  Sometimes that's what you are paying for, the name.  Just quoting an old saying......

Armalite/Eagle Arms lowers are great and Quantico has them for $85. I have both RRA and Eagle Arms. Both are good, but the EA looks a little nicer.

Thanks for all the replies folks, this has been helpful.

I'll post some pics once I get the gun built.  I'm leaning towards the Eagle Arms lower.

I vote for the Mega Gator from carrico for $89 shipped, as good as Eagle Arm, some think the the finish is better.
