Well, Here's a question from an ignorant newbie.  Can the front sight be removed from an H-Bar Bushmaster and replaced with an aftermarket gas block?  Or does this have to be done by a gunsmith?  I got a flattop and only after the fact thought about scope clearance.  Any help would be awesome.

You can remove the sight base by carefully tapping out the basepins from the small end to the large end of the pin (if if different sizes).  Then you're left with two holes to fill or you have a thin section of material between the bore and the hole.  You can re-insert the pins and dress them down carefully.  We'd recommend a gunsmith.

Then you can put on another device.

This pin problem is the reason we went with clamping devices.  Easy to work with, zero, etc.

If you are only concerned about the sight tower blocking your view through a scope, no need to worry. Any scope of 3X or more won't see it.

A scope person can explain why better than I can.

As Armailite says the pins should be "carefully" tapped out.

However, they require a good solid whack while the sight base is solidly supported.  A wooden floor won't work.  Properly supported, with the correct size pin punch, a hefty hammer, driven in the correct direction, it's not that hard of a job.
