I am building a varmint/paper puncher rig. This gun is going to be shot only from a rest and or bench. I am thinking about the 24 inch stainless steel barrel.

Which completed upper to choose?

Les Baer, way to pricey for blue collar worker.

Bushmaster about 1/2 that, still a little pricey.

I sort of narrowed it down to 3 makers in my price range.

DPMS-they make their barrel from Wilson barrel blank.
American Spirit-their barrels are Wilson or Harris.
Model 1 Sales-their barrel manufacturer is E.R. Shaw.

I am kinda of leaning towards Model 1 Sales, however I never heard of Shaw barrels.
But I read here on other posts that DPMS has great customer service.
I have not read any posts on American Spirit.

Any and all suggestions, ideas would be a great help.

Thank you.

Dan

These fellows, have Wilson barreled uppers and while I prefer the CR6724 upper for precision 24" barreled, LR shooting, I have had excellent results w/ the RRA DCM/CMP upper w/ Wilson stainless 1/8 barrel.

I'd get mine from Donnie at www.sableco.net.

PS - there are others that handle RRA uppers on the EE, like Legal Tranfers, CMMG and MSTN too.

I have a 24" RRA Varmint upper like the one pictured above and I can't be any happier.  I don't think you can go wrong with a RRA upper.  They are very reasonably priced to boot.

I went with the RRA 18" Varminter.  I'm pleased so far.[:)]

I have the 16" RRA varmint rifle and its very accurate.  1/4" with good ammo at 100 - 200 yards and 1 MOA at 300 yards.

It can hit a coffee can everytime at 300 yards.

Shaw barrels are supposed to be very good.  They have been around along time making custom barrels.

I don't know what you budget is but I'go for an SPR...  If it's good enough for the tangos it's good enough for the groundhogs! [:D]

The one below is one from MSTN, I believe Wes built it.

Anyway, this is my idea of a varmint rifle.[;)]

My 2 cents.

I have a 24" model 1 stainless steel on a home made lower.  It shoots 1/2 or better MIO at 100 yards with winchester varmint ammo.  Just make sure you order the barrel with the .223 chamber.

Good luck on your build.
