Ok.  I got my Model 1 kit today, and everything was going fine, until I got to the selector installation.  The thing wouldn't go in because the back of the trigger was visible through the hole the selector goes into.  Is this supposed to be up like that when the hammer is cocked?  Anyway, I filed the selector down a little bit and after banging the $hit out of it, got it in.  Then, the hammer wouldn't fall when I pulled the trigger.  This is my first AR build, so I'm not really sure what to do.  I think I have a bad selector, and I'm not sure if the trigger has something wrong with the bottom in the back, where it meets the selector.  Any ideas whats wrong and what I should do?

You shouldn't file on your selector or bang the shit out of it installing it....

Some triggers are a bit too tall to let you install the selector with the other fire control parts already installed.  Remove the hammer and trigger, install the selector, then install the trigger by sliding it under the selector.

If you've installed everything and the trigger won't release the hammer, start by filing excess material off the back top of the trigger until it will release the hammer, then function check to make sure it will not release the hammer when on safe.

During anodizing the trigger-pin hole and hammer-pin holes in the receiver may be victim of "shadowing" depending on the manufacturer. What results is a none uniform coverage of anodizer around the circufrance of the holes. This may prevent the hammer pin from rotating freely in the receiver, and hold the hammer back. Pull the hammer back just prior to it lockin in the rear position and let it go, if it is still slugish, that may be the problem. Otherwise, you may have F@#$%ed something up filing it. A good course of action during assemble is to put the trigger in, then the selector switch, the pistol grip, and then with the selector on "fire", put the hammer in.
You may want to replace the selector depending on how much material is missing. Good luck!!

Best thing to do is print the instructions off this site and follow them EXACTLY the first time.  I did this and had zero problems, no filing, no banging.  If you have to file or bang you either got bad parts or did not follow the instructions.  Good luck.
