| Hey guys thinking about building a complete rifle from scratch I just have a major queistion. How do you assemble the barrel in the upper recever, and the gas tube should just fit in easily shouldnt it or is that a bit difficult as well. |

Check out this diagram and also check the sidebar and go to the books and manuels section and get the tech manuel http://www.ar15.com/content/parts/upper.html The gas tube fits in the front sight tower and then is pinned with a roll pin. The barrel is secured to the reiciever with the barrel nut and is torqued to 30 ft lbs then loosen then tighten again. Do this three times then after the last time after you reach 30ft lbs align up the gas tube hole with the notches of the nut. Always tighten to do this and it should never require more than 80ft lbs to align. Also use some anti-sieze on the threads. Don't forget to put on the delta ring, spring and retainer before you put the barrel on the reciever. edited to add: you will need a barrel wrench to tighten the barrel nut and a torque wrench. Also get an action block to hold the reciever in a vice while torquing the nut. |
