Well I finally got my first AR. I went with a J&T 20" Expedition kit on an Oly T-3 forged lower. Evrything went together perfectly in about an hour and a half with no problems.  (I even got the pivot pin detent installed on the first try!) Of course, I was to stupid to ask if the kit came with a mag, and of course, it didn't! Also, I kind of expected a cheapo sling, but overall I'm real happy with the results. I have one question I hope someone can help me with: I have to use a mallet and punch to knock the front pivot pin out, with or without the upper installed. Will this eventually loosen up? I tried installing the detent flat-side-up and round-side-up. No change. (it's rounded-side-up now) I can push out the rear takedown pin with my thumb. Would shortening the detent spring maybe help? It comes out failry easily after it's past the detent.
Also, I wanted to say that even though I haven't posted much, I sure have been doing a lot of reading and I want to thank eveyone for the time they spend posting and helping each other out. It's all been a great help to me and definitely helped me make many decisions while figuring out which way to go with this rifle!

How often do you plan on taking the upper off?IIWDFI?
The front pivot holes probably have some buildup from the finish process, or some slag from the milling process. A little filing, or running a drill bit through BY HAND, should smooth things out. I have had a detent spring that was "too long", but I switched it with the rear one.

Freeman2, mine does the same thing.  What I do is take a single edge razor blade run it across a sharpining  stone to dull it so you won't cut a finger off.  Next I squeez it in the joint and work it back and forth on the detent pin while at the same time pushing on the pivot pin with my other thumb, it pops right out.  Put the hammer away.

Congrats on your first ar.  I think it may loosen up in time.  You might want to get one of those Delrin takedown punches to use instead of a metal one.  They work good.  On my m4, I can't push the pin out with my thumb but I can by using the delrin punch and just push hard on it. It has gotten easier with time.
