Think i am going to put a Cav-Comp on my skinny A1 (pre-ban to post-ban) upper i just got. Has anyone ever done one of these on a skinny barrel?? I was curious as to how you approached the pin installation to make it permanent on the barrel. I'd just like to drill it slightly in order to make it easier to install on the barrel. How deep do you have to go in to the barrel to make these "Permanent" once you weld the pin hole shut?? I guess that Silver soldering would be an option also but id rather try to do it my self. ANyone ever used the Brownell's Silver Solder Paste?? That seems like it could be be the easiest way to do it...if it works. Thanks, KyARGuy |
| i did the very thing with the same brake on my sp1 upper. the instructions say drill 1/16 of an inch into the barrel. i then drove the pin in with the BFH 2000 and then welded over it with an arc welder @ 90 amps. did it again to a heavy barrel upper this weekend but with a wirefeed at @70 amps. personally i hate the idea of silver soldering. |

I'm not sure about the particular setup you're talking about but silver soldering is pretty popular with the FAL crowd. You might try this link http://www.falfiles.com. The only thing you apparently need beside the paste and is a MAP gas rig, ~$40 at HD. |
