That has been answered before. But without the search button....

I was talking to a friend who is waiting for his FFL to arrive and will be starting gunsmithing school in Jan. He was told "you" are allowed to build only ONE receiver per lifetime. I wasn't sure if he asked the ATF or the college staff. So now he is looking to maybe getting a manufacturing license as well.

I seem to remember years ago it was common to think the "one-per-life" was an accurate statement. But with all the 80% receivers on the market, has this changed and someone misinformed him? Does it apply to FFL holders only, because they would/could sell them???

Like I said, this has probably been covered, but it's a little difficult right now to go looking in the archives for the answer.

Will someone please shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

There is no limit on the number of firearms you can build for your own personal use.

Building even one with the INTENT of selling it is illegal if you do not have a proper manufacturer's FFL.
