Hey guys,

I'm looking to build my first AR.  I've built FALs before but this will be my first AR.

I'm trying to find out which kit to choose from at J&T.  I want a 16" carbine.  Should I go for the 16" car kit or the 16" expedition kit?  What are the differences in these two kits?  It says it has a super grade barrel.  What is that?  Are these barrels chrome lined?  Should I get the car stock or the M4 stock?  What is the difference between the car and M4 handgaurds?

I know alot of these questions are personal preference.  But can you state the good points and bad points of each?

Thanks,

epeek...Hello & Welcome to the BIY board. if you use the AR15.com search engine. You'll find there's a slough of info in existing posts that answer your questions and more. You are correct in stating that much of what you've asked is preferential...the buttstock query is no exception, eh. I prefer buttstocks...plain old A1 stocks and A2's are my second choice. On both accounts, buttstock & hand guard, the CAR's are smaller in size than the M4's. There are alotta udder differencs but what'll strike you is how PHAT the M4 HGs are and how small the CAR butt plate is. If you are looking at specific companies/manufacturers/vendors then I advise that you ask them...e-mail/phone/write'm a letter. Good luck & be sure to post some PIX of whatchya assemble...Bud
