Which mounts?

Something like the vtac goes well with SL polytac or SF 6p/g2x tac, as far as keeping price down

I have the Primary Arms Compact light and tape switch on one of my rifles. Great light for the money, very bright. TLR1 is a great choice as well.

I have one VLTOR quick detach scout mount, and two Viking tactics light mounts. The VLTOR is really nice, and it works awesome on my Ultimak.... but it's pricey. The Viking Tactics light mounts are also nice...for the price, you can't go wrong. As for weaponlights, I have all Solarforce hosts (Surefire clones) with fully potted drop in modules. Solarforce makes the best Surefire clones I have ever found. You could buy a L2P for $25, install a Malkoff M61 for $39...(they are on sale right now) With that, you will basically have a brighter Surefire 6p for $64, I have already seen Olights fail, I have never had one of these fail. Trust me, you will love this light....I know I love mine. I don't know about the Streamlights...but Just to let you know, the Olights, and Primary arms weapon lights are not potted, Malkoff drop ins are fully potted.

The definition of potting:  In electronics, potting is a process of filling a complete electronic assembly with a solid or gelatinous compound for resistance to shock and vibration, and for exclusion of moisture and corrosive agents. Thermo-setting plastics or silicone rubber gels are often used. Many sites recommend using silicone or epoxy to protect from impact and loose wires. [1] Araldite (a brand name) potting compound has been suggested for certain automotive applications.

Most circuit board assembly houses coat assemblies with a layer of transparent conformal coating rather than potting.[2] Conformal coating gives most of the benefits of potting, and is lighter and easier to inspect, test, and repair.

When potting a circuit board that uses surface-mount technology, low glass transition temperature (Tg) potting compounds such as polyurethane or silicone are used, because high Tg potting compounds may break solder bonds as they harden and shrink at low temperatures.[3]

Here is a picture of an L2P...their picture doesn't do it justice. They come in black, grey, blue, and gold. The anodizing, and threads are top notch, and they have ooodles of accessories. Match this host, with a Malkoff drop in module, and you'll have a tough, reliable weapon light, that can handle all the abuse, you can throw at it.... Just like a Surefire, for a lot cheaper. Just make sure you use cr123 primary batteries, and not rechargeable 18650 batteries for your weaponlight.

Here's an old pic of one of mine, before I put the VLTOR scout mount on my AK, It's still basically the same setup, except now that AR is using a Viking Tactics light mount, I needed the VLTOR for my Ultimak.  I modded the Solarforce  tail cap, with remote out, to accept a Surefire tape switch, because Solarforce tape switches are junk.. I got this tape switch really cheap, and I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars for a Surefire tail cap with remote. Both wires are soldered, insulated with heat shrink tube, encapsulated in epoxy, formed with dremil, and covered with bigger black heat shrink tube. The remote wire inside the tail cap, has been isolated, by packing  the hole that the wire goes into the coupling from the switch with epoxy. It is very reliable, and has been abused.

what did you mount tape switch with?

It actually has a rail mount attached to the tape switch, It just snaps on the rail, and you secured it with zip ties. I got mine through an EE on another site for around $30...This tape switch is pricey, Optics planet has it for $71, I cannot find a tail cap to go with it though. Do not buy the M6XX tail cap, it is meant for Surefire Scout lights, and will not work. The only option is the XM07 which cost $126 for a tail cap that comes with a  different Surefire tape switch....this may be your best bet. When it comes to tape switches...Surefire makes the best...hands down, but they'll cost you. I am just a resourceful tightwad, I wouldn't recommend doing what I did unless you have understand how the switches work, and have good soldering, and customization skills. Yes, the Solarforce tail cap with remote out is under $20, but it takes quite a bit of mods, to make it durable, and reliable.  The links below are the tape switch I have, and a different Surefire tape and tail cap XM07 that will work with an L2P. I know they are pricey, but if you bought them with a Surefire flashlight, they would upwards of $400.
