Hey all,
Looking to purchase my first weapon light and I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of options. I would like something that I can swap back and forth between my AR and my XD 40 if that's possible/practical. My primary interest is a light for my AR, it would be nice to have the option of throwing it on my XD but that is not a deal breaker as again the interest is primarily for my AR. I also wanted to get people's thoughts on the light/laser combos and if they are worth the money? For just a light I am looking to spend $100-$200, light/laser combo about $250. Thanks in advance! |
| Spend the cash and get the surefire X300 or the x300 ultra. Will work on both, tons of light. Never played with one to see how far it throws outside of a house, but for the great in of doors they seem to work pretty good. I have a hard time getting exited about the Streamlight TLR lights, don't know why but they just don't do it for me. I think it was that when they hit the market they were using LED's that were like 3-4yrs outdated and had piss poor output. Another option is the Inforce WML's. Lots of guys dig those lights but they are rifle only and their pistol lights are kind of pistol only. If you can score a deal on the SF pistol lights, and they are out there, you'd be hard pressed to go wrong. Ultimately I would get a dedicated light for each. Buy a used SF 6P, M951 or something like that on the cheap, then put in a nice P60 drop in and you'd be well set. The whole 2 is 1, 1 is none thing kind of applies I suppose. |

From my experiences I would go with the Streamlight TLR1s. They can be had for like $1090. You could buy 2 of these for what 1 of the Surefire X300 would cost. THe Surefire is great. I have one mounted on my Glock right now. But I have 3 Streamlights on my ARs and other Glock. They are just as good as the Sureifre and I would not and do not hesitate taking the Steamlight into harms way where my life could depend on my light working when I need it to.
As far as the laser I just do not like lasers on long guns. That is what Red Dots are for. ON handguns I do see some advantages they offer to some. I have used both the ones integrated with light and the Crimson Trace variety. I prefer the Crimson Trace version personally because the activation is away from the light but from experiences I shoot no better with a laser than without so none of my weapons have them,. |

I would go with the TLR-1, mainly because of the price, for the price of the Surefire you can get almost get 2 TLR's, one for the AR and the XD...Here are some youtube video's
Surefire X300 vs TLR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI5hYIpoclY Haley Strategic Darkness Solution: This video doesn't talk about the 2 lights but he talks about the Inforce WML (Another great light for AR), but it is really good info on how the brightest light out there might not be the best for home defense,etc... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V78tH6aVpuM |
