Is it worth the extra money and bulk to have the visible laser?

The nice thing about the DBAL is the Hi/Lo IR settings.

See if you can find the CQBL-1.  Has both IR and Vis laser.  Been getting great reviews and is relatively small.

I think, yes, the DBAL is an improvement over the OTAL.  I like the green vis laser for non standard positional shooting.  The bulk added is minimal.  Also, the independent fire button on top is nice.

The ITAL and CQBL both only work if there is no front sight block.  The CQBL is too short to get over even a flip up front sight.  Best feature of the CQBL is that the vis and ir lasers are slaved together so it is easy to zero.  Also, the CQBL does not come in vis green - only vis red.

So, if front sight is important to you --> DBAL or OTAL.  If you need vis laser, DBAL - choice of red or green.

If front sight is not present and you don't need a flip up --> ITAL or CQBL.  If you need vis laser, CQBL - but red only.

I've been looking at this from the standpoint of how useful a visible laser is if you have a helmet mounted night vision device.  Anyone have any input on this?

I failed to notice the fact the DBAL has two IR settings and the activation button.  These features alone seem to make it worth the extra money.

The CQBL looks good, but I was trying to steer to the 12 o'clock mounting position behind a back up iron sight.
