I purchased the Viking tactical light mount and the polytac led based on what I read thinking it was a good combo. I was wrong. First the mount is cockeyed due to it not clamping down far enough but it is solid and light so I will probably keep it. The other problem is the polytac light is loose in the mount. It is close enough that the tail cap will keep it from popping out but the body of the light is too narrow. I guess what I am asking is what would be another light choice that will for sure work with the mount.

I run a surefire 6p in a vtac mount on one of my rifles.  anything roughly 1 inch should work fine.  you should be able to just shim the polytac a little bit with a thin piece of rubber padding or something...or some strips of aluminum from a beer can (I do that to shim scopes).

not quite sure what you are saying with it being cockeyed tho, can you take a pic?

I got that same set up on one of my AR's the clamp base is going to be cocked when tightened. That's normal. As for the light, you should be able to tighten the clamp down and it should be snug. maybe moving the light back in the clamp might help.
I got some real expensive Surefire / Larue set ups, but the Polytach / Viking set up works great for the money. Because it's plastic , it's also lighter.

Surefire 6P will be rock solid in that mount, as will a Surefire G2.

However, if I were you I'd just shim it with some bicycle tubing, or maybe some electrical or duct tape.
