| I have a light weight SBR that needs a flashlight. I don't want rails everywhere, but I thought about using a mount for the fsb. Thoughts? |
| Running into several problems with this. First, this rifle has an MOE handguard, second it is a 10.5. Most of the mounts I have seen are either incompatible with my handguards or put the light too far forward. The best solution was IWC TMC pic rail and a pistol light but it isn't made anymore. The MOE mount from magpul looks like junk. Grrr |

The IWC SMC won't work for you?
How about the Elzetta mount above? Don't like the Magpul scout mount paired with a Vltor or GG&G ring mount? Maybe try a Magpul rail section (the Magpul cantilever rail section from their illumination kit is nice) and a light mount from LaRue, Vltor/ADM, VTAC, GearSector, DangerClose, or whichever one you prefer/like. |

Remember that the FSB is a huge heat sink. If you use an FSB mounted rail it will heat up as the FSB does. They work, but in some cases all that heat will go straight to your light. That may not be good for the light body and or battery life. I have used the MI FSB mount with good success. They do come loose unless you use loctite on them. Some have had to use red loctite as the blue melts off over time from the heat of the FSB. Also the MI mount only has one screw. So you have to keep it tight or it will rotate loose over time. The MI is compatible with side sling swivels like the M4. GG&G also makes a couple of versions with and without swivels. The Mosse mount puts the light in front of the FSB and above the bore. That may work for you, but it is going to be further forward the the IWC mount. None of the IWC or Magpul solutions are junk. They may not be visually appealing in some cases, but they are strong and lightweight. Here is my SBR with the MOE and an IWC mount on top of the first Gen MOE's.  Here is my SBR with MOE's and a side mounted IWC mount.  In both cases this is my 11.5" SBR with a Surefire Scout on MOE handguards. If I were to mount an M3 or similar, and was right handed, I would mount an MOE rail on the ejection port side. I would put the M3 on there and then activate it with the first finger of my left hand as it wraps under the handguard. I'd use the MOE cantilever rail, not the scout mount. |
| My biggest issue is that with a 10.5 barrel the light ends up sitting right over the flash hider. That's what I liked about the IWC mount and a pistol light, the front of the light wouldn't hang so far forward and the controls wouldn't be half way down the hand guard... |

I've got one of these on my Colt with a TLR-1 attached:

| I prefer the 6 o'clock position and the best mount I have used for this position is the ElZetta that is shown above. All it takes is the slightest movement of the sling swivel to activate the light in this position. Rugged and durable I have them on 3 of my four AR's. Now if you are looking for a light try the ElZetta M60, it is a tank and very well made. Yes I am a Fanboy of ElZetta, nothing else, try it for yourself and you will be one too. |
