So as the BRD sinks in a little deeper every day, I find myself determining what I need to do to my rifle (M&P 15T) next. At this point I have picked the stock (CTR), a hand stop (the grips just don't work for me), and QD sling attachment. So now the guys in my local group are suggesting that I drink the "put a light on it" kool aid. My question to them and to you, the hive, is why? This is not my home defense weapon. I know that at some point in the future I want to take a carbine course and most have low light sections, there I can see a light need for.
So I ask, why a light at this point in my disease cycle? Can't load pics from work, but older pics can be found here. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/578023_MandP_15T_sight_in.html Thanks |

If you're never, ever, ever, ever, ever going to be in a situation where visibility may be limited and you want positive ID on a target before you fire a shot, then no, you don't need a light.
If you want a light that's versatile and not very expensive, I recommend you look at a Streamlight TLR-1. It's about $100 and can be mounted on many common pistols, picatinny rails, and with an adapter even a Remington 870. ETA: Why is your thread title headlights? A weaponlight has nothing to do with headlights. I came in here expecting a discussion like Army surplus IR lights mounted onto a golf cart or something. |

Thanks guys. I actually have a TLR-1 at home for my pistol. I did not really think about putting it on my AR. My current abode is such that over penetration is a real concern. I will continue my research and see what works best. Thanks again Tim Do some reading, I think you'll find the AR will over-penetrate LESS than you pistol! |
