So I keep waffling back and forth between:

Elzetta

and

VTAC

Both are right around the same price. Something I am concerned about is weight; will the Elzetta weigh considerably more than the VTAC? It just looks like it has more mass...

Opinions and insight are appreciated. Whatever mount I choose will be housing a Streamlight Polytac LED (that I got for 25$!!!!) on an M4gery with all Magpul furniture.

I ran a Vtac for a while.  I don't care for mounting to the barrel or underneath.  I have heard good things about Elzetta though.

Don't like mounting things to the  barrel.  & I don't like how far forward it mounts. I have short arms so for me a closer light is better.
Also if you use a sling & use the stock sling mount under the FSB, it will interfere with the light knob.

For the record, the Elzetta ZFH1500 does not mount to the barrel, it attaches to the front sight base.  It may therefore be used with any gun with a standard A2 FSB regardless of barrel length, diameter, or profile.

Adding a sling to the standard front sling swivel does not generally interfere with operation of the flashlight tailcap in an Elzetta ZFH1500.  Here is an excerpt from our ZFH1500 FAQ Page:

Will attaching a sling on the front sling
swivel interfere with the use of the ZFH1500 Tactical Flashlight
Mount?
 No, Elzetta designed the
ZFH1500 to work in various configurations.  When the flashlight is mounted rearward (with the tailcap exposed), the sling swivel (with or without a
sling attached) will activate the push-button switch of the flashlight.  When
the flashlight is mounted with the tailcap recessed into the ZFH1500 body, the
push-button switch is protected from the sling swivel while the tailcap of the
flashlight is still accessible through the skeleton hole in the ZFH1500
body.

The Elzetta ZFH1500 and VTAC Mounts both have extensive track records of top performance.  Which one is best for you will largely depend on personal preferences and where you wish your light to be located.

Thank you for considering Elzetta products!

I don't know abouthe Elzetta although they have a track record of being great.  I do have a polytac in a vtac mount and just so you know, it will not tighten down all the way, you will have to figure out a creative way to "shim" it, electrical tape works great.  Maybe Elzetta could comment on if theirs will tighten up all the way with a polytac.

The Elzetta comes with shims in the package.  You're covered from .7" to 1.1" diameter lights.

I have both mounts and I prefer the Elzetta. In fact, I have the Elzetta with the PolyTac LED flashlight on my AR right now. As someone mention, the Elzetta comes with 2 shims to accommodate flashlight from .07” to 1.1”. The VTAC only comes with a shim to accommodate a .80” flashlight. Note: I had to use 1 shim with the PolyTac LED flashlight in my Elzetta mount. The great part about the PolyTac LED flashlight is that you can change the batteries by removing the head. So you can replace the batteries without having to remove the flashlight if you go with the Elzetta mount.

I don’t have a scale to verify the actual weight of each product. In my hand, they both seem about the same. Either way, no matter which one you pick, you’ll have a great flashlight mount. Pick the one you think will work best for you.

Barrel Shadow.

Putting light over the barrel is better than under...

Not a deal breaker by my preference.
