| So I saw a few Hoo-Ahhs walking around AFG with, what looked like, metalic tan or coyote weapon lights on their M4s. I'm guessing these are surefires but couldn't tell. Does anyone know where is the best place to order one? Any experience with them? Looking to possibly order one when I get home. |

The SF Scout is currently out of stock at DSG Arms, but goes for $318 with military discount another good guy to deal with is Kevin at brightflashlights send him an email for his military price industry forum I have a black M600C. Great light. 200 lumens, good throw, probably a little too bright for indoor use. If that's your intended use you may want to go with the single cell M300A |

The Surefire M952VXM07 is what you've been seeing.

I would go for the new insight m3x led, way better then surefire for the cost in my opinion. It's issued to SOF is fully waterproof surefire is not, only weighs 3.9 oz with batteries surefire weighs twice as much, and is very rugged!! I'm sorry, I am not trying to be rude, but Insight is an economical replacement for Surefire for those on a budget, they work well for what they cost, but they are not "way better than Surefire" in any way. If someone has the money and is looking for a top quality, durable weaponlight, Surefire is the best money can buy (unless there is some small company out there making everything without cutting costs anywhere that I don't know about). |

Both are great lights, and have surefire quality and customer support. But if it's just the color you want, you can paint your favorite weapon light.

Either of you have any substantiation for these claims? Just take a particular model that is designed by each company for a particular role. For this, lets say the M3 and the X200a. Both were designed to be the entry into the pistol light market-place. Try to find more than a story or two about an X200 going down (they have broken, but it is extremely rare). In contrast, do the same thing with the M3 (they are many known problems with the light going down under recoil). I did the research when buying a handgun light and saw the failures with the M3 and decided to go with the X200 instead. I have not had it go down. I never bought an M3 so I can't tell a personal story of it going down. |

Not rude at all, rather personal opinion's. I own a couple Surefire light's specifically the m900 weaponlight and a g2, and while they do make an excellent light I think they are definately lacking in alot of area's ie weight, waterproofness, and cost. On the upside they have outstanding customer service and they make a very durable product as long as you don't drop it in the water or take a swim with it ask me how i know that lol. Insight technology light's and laser's are issued to tier 1 troop's through the sopmod program, and while they may not be quite as rugged as some surefire model's are, I feel they outperform them in other area's mentioned above especially with insight's new led bulb's. BTW I have no affiliation with either company just an end user giving my 2 cent's hope this help's |

I know the IR lasers that are issued are from Insight (or L3- Insight's parent company and parent company of EoTech) so they are definitely good. Though for me, durability trumps weight. If I have to worry about a light breaking due to recoil, I am not comfortable using it. Though I must say, I do typically stick to Surefire's LEDs, as incandescent bulbs are much more fragile. As far as water resistance, I have not had the problem with either my X200 or my 6P LED, even after submerging them in water, so I really can't comment. |

SF is issued far more widely. 3rd Stryker issued the M3X/M6X's for a while.....they don't do it anymore. They've gone to SF....same with their RDS - AP rather than EO. |

Didn't say that, but when a manufacturer win's a contract with Crane it mean's their product's have met certain criteria and have undergone rigorous testing to pass. Now does that mean they are perfect far from it, but it does say alot. The only issue's I have heard about coming from the sf guy's are mainly the incan bulb blowing out (same with surefire) and some have reported issues with the slidelock not being as solid as they would like but we are talking about a 3.5 oz unit here. Now with the new led upgrades available through Insight the bulb issue is solved, however the reason incan is used by the military is because you can't put an ir filter over an led bulb, but the ir light suck's anyway's so the guy's I know would rather just use the peq illuminator for nv operation's and have a solid visible that has better runtime, is brighter, and won't blowout on them. Everything is a compromise though |
