hey whats up everyone. i am looking at a few lights to put on my weapon. i am stuck on three surefire models. please let me know which would be best. there is one LED model in there and the other two are xenon. it makes no difference to me cause i know you could change them to LED if i wanted too. thanks

surefire L5-HA LED
surefire 6P Defender xenon
surefire E2D Defender xenon

you might as well go for the LED models

the 6P is great, don't forget about the new 6PX series

The E2D LED is also good, but i always see that as more of a carry light than an AR light

I would not recommend the E2D LED as it is a multi-mode light. I have heard it can switch between high and low with recoil.

It can be an issue - also, don't try to use a dual lumen light with a pressure switch - it can have the same effect

The only reason i can see have a dual output light on an AR is to use the lower stage for a nav light / low level light, where you don't need 200 lumens, but you still need to see what is going on

First of all, there are more lights than surefire. Having said that I have owned one thought it was great until I bought a Lumaforce light with 300 lumens and 5 functions that is built just as well as Surefire and only cost 49.95. It has On, Strobe, SOS and 2lower levels of illumination. You can also get several other accessories and my fav is the rechargeable Li-ion batteries with charger. Anyway I have no bias for any certain company but if your going to get a light, you may as well get one just as nice for half the bucks. I honestly like their lights so much I sold my Surefire. Check them out.

No offense, but that is not what you want in a tactical/weapon light. Momentary on/off only.

Were I spending my money and I wanted a dual purpose handheld and rifle mounted light, I would look very hard at the VTAC/Surefire L4. It's a Scout-light head/bulb and a Scout-light tailcap mounted on an E2 body. Call brightflashlights for a quote on one, it will end up about the same price as any of the options you (OP) mentioned once you factor in the price it would take to convert them to LED. And it is designed as a weapon light, so it will handle the recoil.

Were I wanting a designated (never to come off the weapon for other use) light, I would look at the X series from Surefire. Mount it in front of your front sight at the 12 o'clock position. Plus if you run one on your pistol, it will simplify parts procurement.
