I just picked up a Surefire m951 and am thinking about an LED replacement.

I can get the KXFD for $53.

Any other options.  I know there's other mods, but I can't find a place to read more about them.

What say the hive?

If you are not a lume hound, KX4 / KX4D will be a perfect LED replacement for your SF951.  That's what I have on mine.  Or you can get TNVC drop in or Malkoff Device for higher lumen (around 200 lumen, I think).  If you chose to go the Malkoff device route, you'll need to take the battery retainer out from your SF951.  I wanted to keep my SF951 as "original" as I can, so I went the KX4 route.

Another +1 for the KX4D. Go with known SureFire quality and reliability for weaponlights.

I was just doing some reading and it's not clear that the KX4D will work with the M951. Are you using the LED/IR head, or the KX4D?

Thanks.

ETA: I ask because it seems that the KX4D is designed to work the the 6P-type lights.

It should work with any body that uses a P60 lamp, including the M95x.

If it's going to be weapon mounted, why not go with the non-pointy KX4 version.  It's less prone to snag on slings and such.  The KX4D only comes in Type II anodizing, not hard-anodized.  The standard KX4 comes in HA (grey) so it'll also match the finish of the M95x better, if that matters to you.

I went with the KX4 mounted on the rifle, and a KX4D on a G3 body as a handheld light.  Being a believer that "one is none" I like to be able to use my handheld light parts to keep my mounted one operational in a pinch.
