Can anyone comment as to its quality and durability? I have an E2D on my rifle (5.56) that still wears the original bulb and would like to upgrade to an LED. This route seems to save $50 over the surefire scoutlight head. What say you?

Thanks!

I'm using these heads on two different lights; a Surefire E1E personal carry light, and on a Surefire M600A weapons mounted light. They offer a good compromise of throw and spill. In both cases, these heads have turned the lights into completely different animals; powerhouses, that is! In the case of the E1E, it has made the output (throw and lumens) comparable to a Surefire 6P Original. It is much more compact though, running off a single cell, and it makes for one badass CCW light.

On the M600A, the upgrade from the KL2 head to the TNVC E-Series made a tremendous difference. The light went from mediocre illumination at 50 yards to being able to positively ID something at 75 yards. This is the furthest distance I've used it, might be just as capable at further distances as well. Basically, it transformed this light from a CQB light to an outdoor light. In my application, this was ideal. I will go as far as to say it might be too much light for close-quarters.

My only criticism is the conservative use of solder that is used to connect the spring. They use a very thin ring of solder around the base of the spring. I had one of them break loose and I had to solder it back on using a large bead. The other one still has the factory soldering job. If it breaks I'll have ot soldered with a large bead as well.

Thanks for input, If I grab one I might just get the soldering done preemptively.

I've had one of TNVC's E2 heads since they came out.  In fact, I got mine before they were available in black, or with crennelations.  I carried it for a short time on a hand-held body, was satisfied, and moved it to a rifle, replacing the head on my M600a scout light.  It stayed there for about 500 rounds, with no problems, so I switched it to my primary rifle.

So it now has several thousand rounds through it, and still no problems.  I don't usually turn the light on, but do a little practice with it sometimes when the sun goes down and I'm still out shooting, so it's only on its second set of batteries, but the recoil is the same whether powered on or not.

It really is a huge improvement over the KL4 head of the M600a.  The KL4 is known as a "wall of light" but the TNVC E2 head has a spillbeam almost as bright as the KL4, with a significantly brighter spot that reaches much further out.
