Doesn't anyone know when Surefire plans to release the M720 Light?

Yup, those geeks are getting more of my money.  Saw the new catalog at the gun store.  Caused me to screwup my paperwork twice.

Very nice indeed.

SureFire's 2011 catalog proposes the M720V.
It does not include the other versions that were proposed last year.

Now that the M720V has a NSN (6230-01-590-2412) it may be closer to release...

They only had one at SHOT yesterday. It was the model with the IR switch. I was considering getting the 350 lumen model, but they're primarily a tape switch operated light. Too tall for 12 o'clock mounting too.

Btw, their products' output is being raised again. The new rating on say a m3lt combat light is now 600 lumens. 200 for the x series of pistol weapon lights.

Just a reminder, Surefire's annual catalog regularly contains vaporware

But they have followed up with a ton of new products this year that were completely unexpected and largely unannounced so no complaints here.  It's not like I am in a position to buy their proposed super-high end invictus/optimus anyways.   I just want my damn LX-1

SureFire has been awarded US Military contracts to supply the M720V along with a ScoutLight and their new HF4 HellFighter so production of these will take priority over proposed new products they would like to release...

Since they got rid of the 350 lumen model, PASS.

At SHOT 2010 (last year ) they said April -May 2010 @ $700+.

At SHOT 2011 (this year) they said April-June of 2011 @ $800+.

I pointed out to the Surefire rep about last years missed date and he said the M720V is pretty much done. He said he was pretty sure it would be out in the 2nd Quarter. He acted like he knew what he was talking about IMHO.  We will see.

It will be nice tool for nightwork. Of course, $800 weakens my enthusiasm.

Called Surefire Thursday and they said they are out to dealers but I have yet to find a dealer that has any in stock.

WOW! It is really ugly. And tall. Bet it retails for over five bills. Unless one shows it's face in the EE for $100, I'll stay in the "dark" ages with my M951 and Malkoff M61.

Could get a M600C and the IR/Vis head for cheaper than this in a smaller package. I really don't see the appeal.

I agree.  I don't really see the appeal, except to have the latest widget on your carbine.

The RAID seems like a step backward for Surefire.  It appears as if it is primarily meant to be used with a tape switch, I personally prefer tailcap activition.  It looks like it's meant to be mounted at the 6 o'clock, again, not what I prefer, plus it limits you to use on something with a fairly long 6 o'clock rail.  I seems kind of bulky compared to a scout light or x300.  The cost is just ridiculous, even compared to Surefire's usual ridiculous prices.

So what's the benefit versus a scout or a X300?  Seems to have similar run time and lumens (except for the M720L version).  Weight is pretty similar.  The scout has a IR option (620V) too.  The only thing I can think of is the variable output and strobe.  I suppose the variable output isn't a bad option, I personally think strobes are silly, but that's just me.

I really like the variable output option. It would be nice to have that on my M952V. That being said I don't care much for the form factor of this light. I use my M952V more often detached as a hand held than attached as a weapon light. The form factor and tailcap allow me to do that easily. The M720 does not look as if it would be comfortable to operate in that role. The price is eye popping as well. I get so used to the common e-bay prices for Surefires I always forget what the MSRP is.

I've actually held one and finger drilled it.  Seemed to be a viable option.  This was last March in Germany.  Now, if we can get them here....

AAAARRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
