I'm about to buy a surefire scout off the EE. This is the 120 lumen version not the 200 lumen version. What kind of throw can I expect from this light?

I have not actually measured it but my guestimate would be 70 - 80 yards depending on the moon.

I have one with the older 100 lumen head. For law enforcement use it is fine. It lights up any room or stairwell I've been in. That being said I think I can land airplanes with my 200 lumen head. It lights up my whole back yard. Inside, its almost too bright. I get a lot of reflection (splash back) off of white walls.

I could put a spot on the top of a 80+ foot tall spruce tree that was beyond my backyard with my old Scoutlight. It is easily a 100 yards away...

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I would go by which head you have on the scout rather than the lumen rating.

I thought the older scout with the KL4 head was rated at 100 lumens, and when the scout was upgraded to the KX2C head it was initially rated at 120 lumens. I think SF later changed the way they measured the output and upped the KX2C head to 200 lumens.

If the scout has the KX2C head, it has the longer throw of the 2 versions. I have both and there is a significant difference between the KL4 and the KX2C head.

There is more to the difference in the KL4 and the KX2C than the lumen rating.
The KL4 is set up with a reflector that spreads out the beam, where the KX2C has a narrow beam for more throw.
Plus the KL4 is an older style of led that is less efficient, which is why it runs a lot hotter.

I've been looking into this too.  This is the info that I've been getting.  LOL, I've gotten 2 different answers from SF when I called though

50 yards is the max and it begins to wash out...

They are the same, they throw about 60-80 yards with good-eyes and no ambient light. If you have an ACOG, you might be able to hit something at 100 yards as ACOG's gather up some light.

The reason I say 60-80 yards is I have seen output between 170 and 210 lumens. It varies.

Hi,

I just tried my M300A off my deck. A 6" wood picket fence 104 yd's away was lit up well enough to see a target through my TA11-FG ACOG and my T-1 Micro Aimpoint.
