whats a good light to have, and at what point dose it go from an AR with a light on it, to a light with an AR on it,  I wanna upgrade from my surefire g2, to something a little brighter, but not something thats gonna be to akwardly huge, or weigh my rifle down.... and lets keep it under 300 bucks, for that much i could buy and train a monkey to walk infront of me holding a 2 million watt spot light....

Why not just buy a LED upgrade for the G2?

I have dedicated Surefire light/forends on all of my "fighting" ARs –– I just personally like them better than any separately-mounted light set-up I've ever tried on an AR.  (But I'm not a VFG fan, and I'm sure that has a lot to do with it...)

I run a G2LED in a Viking Tactics mount for a good low weight, low cost setup. I just put a 6PLED in an Elzetta ZORM on another rifle but I haven't had it out yet...

this, except i run a TA20 for work. i like the different levels of brightness, although i mainly use the lowest (4 lums) for nav light and the strobe (230 lums) for tactical/entry use.

You may consider our Elzetta ZFL-M60 Weapon-Grade Lights, available in 12 configurations.

Using legendary Malkoff LED modules, the Elzetta ZFL-M60 boasts an honest 235 lumen output, optical beam projection, fully potted electronics, patent-pending heat sink technology, type III hard anodized 6061-T6 construction, and American craftsmanship.  There is not a tougher light on the market.

Shown below, mounted in an Elzetta ZORM Mount, is an Elzetta ZFL-M60 with our popular High/Low Tailcap which provides a 15-lumen Navigational Beam in addition to the 235-lumen Tactical Beam.

Two cheapest options will probably be these:

1. Malkoff bulb upgrade for the your G2
2. Streamlight TLR-1 w/C4 technology (135 lumens) no mount needed

We have a lot of happy customers going down range with our Q5 in a Surefire G2, mounted in a VTAC Light Mount.

220 usable lumens drops right into the light you already own.  $44.99 for the lamp.  $24.95 for the mount.  $69.94 + shipping.  How's that for coming in under $300?

Here is that configuration on my work gun.

As compared to what?

The G2LED or 6PLED has a 3hr run time until is reaches 50% (from ~80 Lumens to ~40 Lumens).

TNVC's Q5 220 Lumen drop-in has ~2 hr run time.

Malkoff's M60 @235 Lumen drop-in has a 90 min + run time at this level and a total run time of ~2 hrs.

If you drop down to Malkoff's M60L (Low Output 140 Lumens), then you get 4 1/2 hr run time at this level and a total run time of ~6 hrs.

All of these drop-in's are a good upgrade for your C/G/P/Z Surefire.
