I am trying to sight in my new green laser and am wondering at what yardage should I set it for 50-100?
I will mostly be using this laser setup for Hawg huntin' . Any suggestions? Any input would be appreciated.

I zero my optic at 50 yards and my laser at 200. The reason is this:
A 50 yard zero is dead nuts at 50 yards and 200 yards using standard 5.56x45mm. At 100 yards, the bullet will be about 1.5" high. Due to the bullet's arc, a 50 yard zero gives you the least amount of deviation in your sights over the most common engagement distances for a carbine. But, a laser is a straight beam that does not arc. If you zero your laser at the same distance as your optic (50 yards), it is going to cross paths with the projectile at 50 yards and your POI will drop off dramatically after that. So, by zeroing at 200, your holds are much less at distances out to 200 (which is probably pushing the max range of laser effectiveness on a target at night for most folks). My unit taught this method and I still use it for my duty rifle. But, YMMV. |
