| The AR Lights and Lasers Forum would probably be your best bet for opinions. |

I currently have Surefire M951s on my carbines that have weaponlights. They share common bulbs with my 6P and G2 handheld lights, since I haven't made a wholesale transition to LED yet. The Pentagon X3 was nice, but it's been retired since the company disappeared. I'm considering an SBR/Pistol build, and may put a smaller pistol light on there - I've been very happy with the Streamlight TLR-1 on my Glock. That would be a short-range AR setup, so I don't quite need the throw of those bigger Surefires. |
| I went w/ a Fenix TK12 on my AR and a TK10 on my scatter gun. They're strong enough to stand up to 12 ga. recoil and bright enough for reaching further out. The TK12 also has a strobe setting. And for 60 bucks, you can't go wrong w/ a Fenix TK series light IMHO. Which ever light you decide to go w/ you should check out the VTAC light mount. They stay nice and close to the rail instead of sticking way out there just begging to get snagged on gear or clothing. |

You'll find many people choose Surefire or Streamlight products.
Both company make excellent lights that are designed and guaranteed to survice the hard use a weaponlight receives. They have bulbs, electronics, and switches that will standup to recoil. They are also waterproof and in everyway extremely durable. Yes, they do cost more but IMHO, are worth every penny. Fenix makes some excellent lights (I often EDC one myself) but I wouldn't put any variable power light on a weapon since the recoil might cause it to switch to either a higher or lower lummination setting when you least want it to. |

Surefire G2. I personally do not prefer the LED model. Just does not seem at bright to me. I'm using the LED model because some folks (here and elsewhere) have suggested that the bulb in the regular G2 may break under recoil. I've never had a bulb failure on any of my non-LED SF's, but I don't wanna take the chance on my duty rifle. As for someone else saying the SF's and Streamlights cost more, true. They do cost more than other "off" brands at retail. However, look around on the EE here––I've recently bought two NIB G2LEDs for $45 and $55, respectively. I think the retail is about $80, so that's quite a bit off retail. The regular G2 can be had at gun shows and on sale for $32-$35. And yeah, my 1" scope ring mount is simple, functional, strong, and free! Hell, double 'em up if you're that worried about it. Someone above me has a pic of a TLR on their rifle. I like that setup––it's perfect for a KISS/lightweight rifle. |
