After a bit of looking around I ended up getting a Surefire G2, Malkoff Drop-in, and Daniel Defense Offset Mount. I am very happy with this set-up with the exception of the Daniel Defense Mount. The quality of the mount is very good and everything locks up rock solid but it seems to me to put the G2 to far away from the rail. Perhaps it was designed with a flashlight with a bigger head in mind. Anyway, I don't care for it very much. I actually wanted to get the VLTOR offset but couldn't find one in stock anywhere. Now I have found the VLTOR in stock but I'd just as soon not make another mistake. Maybe the Viking Tactics offset would be better.
Maybe I'm weird not caring for the Daniel Defense mount. Help me out here, what is the consensus on the best offset rail mount for a Surefire G2? |

I too am not real fond of the postition the DD places the light, although as you said it is a nice mount.
The Larue puts the light away from the rail more than I care for too. Its obviously very nice and a quality piece, just not for me. I like something that tucks the light nice and close into the rail, like the VTAC or VLTOR. Both the VTAC and VLTOR put the light in very similar positions on the rail. The VLTOR is aluminum and very robust. Mounting if the light to the mount and mount to the rail, is fast and easy with either the thumbscrew or QD ADM throw lever models. The VTAC is plastic, but I've never seen one fail, and I ran two on various rifles for a year or so. Its mounting is slower and requires the use of hex wrenches, but it is substantially less expensive. Both should sreve you well. I know run the VLTORs on my rifles. -BDHershey |
| Thanks for the replys. This is how is how it appeared to me also...very similar mounting position between the Viking and Vltor. Sometimes everything isn't apparent over the net though. I'm not completely opposed to plastic, and it is cheaper, but I think I'll take the plunge on the Vltor. |
