OK, so it's neither a weapon light, nor is it all that tactical except as a club. I have an oldish Maglight 3D cell that has finally burnt out its second bulb. Rather than just get it working again, I thought I'd look in to what upgrades are available to convert it to an LED light, as bright as possible preferably. Let's hear it!

The Malkoff drop-ins are great - my neighbor's got a couple, and they really wake up the old platform, making it as effective a light as it is a club!  They do require modifying the reflector in order to fit, or you can order a modified reflector from Malkoff.  Along with the focusing ability, you also get to keep the ugly artifacts of the Maglights.  That can be helped by adding some orang-peel spray to the reflector, but it cuts the brightness some.

Battery Junction also sells a variety of Maglight drop-ins - some less expensive (and less output), others more:

Here's a huge thread on them, but it'll make your head spin if  you don't watch out:

I went ahead and ordered the Malkoff drop in module. It ain't cheap, but at 240 lumens it should be bright enough to light up the big field behind my house.

Thanks for the info guys!

The Malkoff drop in arrived today. Definitely follow the instructions where it tells you not to shine it in your eyes...

A huge upgrade, to say the least.  Thanks for the info guys...

Upgrade to a Borofloat glass lens as well.

I gave out 3D Maglights a couple of years ago to everyone in the family with Terralux bulbs and Borofloat lenses. Everyone really liked them.
