I'm looking into purchasing a surefire M500a built in handguard light. Does anyone happen to know if the handguars are the M4 style (fat) handguards or the smaller handguards?

They are like the fat kind.
Most velcro straps that go around the handguard should be adjustable. Because the primary incandescent light and the LED lights are mounted near the front, you can't put such a strap all the way at the front. I decided to use one of the side sling swivels that were originally designed to be used when an M203 is mounted. |

My side sling adapter hits the LED's on the M500. Sorry for the hijack ETA: OP- the M500 handguards are about the same size as the "fat" m4 handguards. I don't think my adapter is different from yours. Strangely enough, it doesn't seem to change the overall light output very much. I think it is because the LEDs' light is so diffuse already. I do mount it "backwards", i.e. with the swivel swinging towards the front, since the LEDs would block the movement to the back anyway. The shape of the block also limits the rotation, so it doesn't apply much pressure to the LED assembly. |
