How important is a shock isolated bezel when mounting a G2 or 6P to an AR? Right now I have a basic 6P set up on my rifle. I take it off whenever I go to the range. Is shooting the gun a few times enough to damage the light, or does it take more extensive abuse to do anything? I would hate to have t fail in a situation when I needed it. Thanks. |
| I would think the only damage would be to the element in the lamp, and if its on and hot its weaker, once dropped a dewalt 18v light that was on for a while and the element landed on the glass and made a bubble on the bulb from the heat. Unless there is a circuit board in the lighht it should be fine if turned off. I have a surefire 6 volt G2 I think on an ar and shotgun but they were always off and still work fine. But im no expert on lights. |
| It will probabl be OK on your AR but if you would like a little additional 'insurance' get an LED replacemebt lamp...SureFire makes a drop in unit as does Malkof and others. And the poster who mentioned the heat issue is correct where incandescent lamps are concerned. |
| Just to clarify. I will continue taking the light off during range sessions. But say in the highly unlikely event that I'm actually using the weapon in a low light situation, I don't want to fire 2 shots and have my light go out. It sounds like you guys are saying this probably won't happen. I have the light on the weapon for a reason. I just want to make sure it works if/when I need it most. |
+1 I use the LaRue off-set QD mount with the Surefire 6P LED and it sits perfect to activate the switch with my thumb (I hate loose running wires). |

I've got a 9P with a Malkoff LED replacement up front mounted on a rifle. This gun took a 6 foot spill a couple of weeks ago. Light works great. Incandescant have their uses, but for the most part it's like sending a fax from your computer...why not just send an email??? |
Those Malkoff drop-ins are built like a tank. Well worth the extra $$$. |
