I have an older model Surefire 6p light with tape switch on my rifle, and would like to upgrade it to be brighter. I've read all about CREE LED bulbs, and honestly it's still a bit confusing as to which bulb would provide the brightest light output. Please help... Which bulb, reflector, and bezel combination would you suggest for the brightest light output while still utilizing the 6p body and tape switch? I need a seriously bright light for lighting up targets at long distances. Any suggestions would be very appreciated! |
| The P60L lamp assembly is a drop in replacement. I have one and I love it. |
| I've heard great things about Malkoff lights but I question whether you REALLY want the brightest light you can get. 80 lumens is about right for indoor work and can get out pretty far outdoors. If you intend to use the light primarily for home defense, much more than 80 lumens really starts messing with your own night vision. I have a P60L on my M951 and it's just about the perfect amount of light. Also, the brighter the light is, the shorter it runs on the same batteries. |
No it's not, it's even better! I've run two modules quite a bit on both SBRs and in general use. Both have functioned 100% in all uses. When I go for a late night walk, usually accompanied by my P7M8, I still take my old favorite LaRue BattleLight with it's lanyard around my wrist, but always carry a Malkoff P60 as a backup light! |

If the Malkoff M60 is too bright, just get the M60L. Watch his website like a hawk, because everything sells really fast. It seems to be going even fast lately as he is preparing to transition from hand building everything personally to teaming up with a manufacture to handle it. I think people are clammoring to get their hands on those wtih his personal touch before they are all gone. The only thing to consider is that the M60 and M60L are 8 degree thrown lights, with minimal spill due to their smooth reflectors. The M60F and M60LF are 25 degree walls of light that are only good out to about 100 feet. For a comparision I measure my E2e at something like 12-13 degrees (rough measurement, bue seems about right). I feel that an 8 degree light would be perfectly suited for use on an SPR for long distance rifle for coyote shooting and so on, but that it is too narrow for close-in work (indoor and out). Use your judgement. Another thing to think of, surefire has their LED drop in lamp available (12-13 degree) at 80 lumen and anyday now we should be seeing th 200 lumen version of it at about the same price. That stipled reflector makes for great spill and really makes the light work well for close-in work. |
| Thanks for all the info. I think I have decided to go with the Malkoff product. Is the R2 that much better than the Q5 version? Or is it a pretty close comparison? Malkoff seems to be the best bang for the buck. Great feedback so far. If anyone has any other experiences, please chime in. |
