I want a weapon light and I am looking at the inexpensive G2 and the not so M600 scout.
Opinions? Is there another model I should check out?
Are all Sure Fires interchangeable with the tape switch and button.

The moonbeam world is new to me.

The 600 is built on the 'E' platform and neither lamps nor tailcaps will interchange with those of the 'G' series lights such as the G2. Within 'families' (for lack of a better term) tailcaps and lamps, etc. usually will interchange to a greater or lesser degree.

The new 600 with the 120 lumen LED is a helluva light. Not cheap, certainly, but lightweight and very powerful. Much will depend on how much you are willing to spend and what things are most important to you. The G2LED in something like a Viking mount is still an excellent light (80 lumens) and much less expensive, etc.

Keep in mind that most of the handheld lights (6P, G series etc) are not 'weaponlights' and lack the shock isolated bezel, and isolated battery compartment of the weaponlights.  That being said, a lot of people use the standard lights with a mount, such as the previously mentioned VT, with good results.  It really just depends on how much you are willing to spend.

For a first light, it would be hard to go wrong with a good quality basic hand-held LED version like the G2L or 6PL in a decent mount.  This'll give you something to try out for a reasonable price, and they take different tailcap switches (like tape switches) so you can change those around to see what works for you.  The LED head gets rid of the need for a shock mount bezel and gives much better battery runtime as well.

After you've used it for a while, if you decide you need something bigger and badder, you've still got a great hand-held tac light, or you can sell it for a reasonable amount, as they hold their value well.  Alternately, there are higher output drop-ins available for them if you like the light and decide you need more lumens.

I see Sure Fire discontinued the 600A. I will have to wait fir the C model.

Does anyone use a M96?

I have a 962C on one of my ARs. Great light but pretty heavy and a bit bulky, especially if compared to the 600's. I ma not getting rid of it but doubt I would buy another with the newer LED lights coming online now.
