This looks like a decent light as far as value vs features goes.  Has anyone had firsthand experience with it?  I'm looking to use it for duty use and it will stay permanently mounted to my Glock.

Not real sure about the XTI but I do own and use 4 of the Insight M6 lite/laser combos and 1 M3.
I've had them mounted on 3 ar's and 2 Kimber  45 ACP's  with "Zero"issues. When I shoot at the range I always leave them turned on to see if there are any probs. After approx 4,000 rounds of 45 ACP only had to replace 1 bulb(I dropped the lite)

Yeah, I've got the TLR1 (with a SSC P4 LED) on my duty weapon now along with an M3 on my AR.  Both are adequate for target ID.  I do like the idea of the strobe function though.  From what I can gather, the XTI Procyon should be a bit better in terms of brightness, runtime, and durability.  I'm just curious if anyone has played with it first hand and how it rates.

I sometimes feel like i have spent too much on the lights for my guns, but i must have half the Insight line up. I run the M6X on my AR, M3X on my mossberg 500, the X2L on my XD subcompact and a X2 on my schweet 10/22. Never had a failure with any of them, i suspect the XTI will be as good or better then their older products, i will be interested in what people have to say about it when it comes out.

I have one of these lights and have put it through the paces on my G22. The day after I got it, I shot for practice, then 3 qualification courses with it and then actual qualifications -- 400+ rounds. It was daylight, but I left the light turned on, just to see if anything would break. Several days later I had the opportunity to shoot the same qualification course in low light. Using this light, I was able to quickly get on targets out to 7 yards or so, without much consideration for anything but a glimpse of the front sight trit. It pointed precisely and was much brighter than anything else I've used in this form factor (I have not yet tried the X300). I shot well enough to have qualified under daylight scoring.

This light utilizes a faceted reflector that yields a star-shaped hotspot with a rather pronounced halo that, in use, does not detract from its usefulness. The spill is plentiful and bright. Beam temperature is warm for an LED, but not incandescent yellow. The rail grabber allows the light to attach to virtually any manufacturer or type of rail. It fir snuggly and securely on the Glock with no adjustments, however.

I know I will probably end up with a X300, as I have other guns, I'd like to have newer lights on. But this little light is well worth the $.

Is the XTI suitable for a 5.56 carbine?
