I have an E2E, G2 and 6P that I am thinking about updating to CREE. Are there drop in CREE replacements that some one can spec. for me? I get overwhelmed every time I start looking and back burner the projects. ![]() I may want to update some AA mag lites too............. |

I'm pretty much flashlight ignorant, but it seems like Gene Malkoff's CREE drop ins are viewed as being very good, maybe the best. Right now he makes drop ins for your G2 and 6P, but not the E2E. I heard he may be making them in '08. Only problem is that he sells out very quickly once he posts them to his website. If you want one you should register so you will get an email once they are available. Then camp out by the computer and wait. www.malkoffdevices.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2_7 |
Malkoff announced that he is now working on the lighting stuff full time and should be able to keep product in stock. Right now he's showing both high and low output 6P conversions in stock. Dealextreme has several choices in drop in conversions. I've been running a 1447 drop in for several months now in a G2, and been very pleased. I have a 6090 on order along with a Cree Q5 emitter upgrade to see how they do. |
For me Malkoff is showing out of stock for the high and low output versions, strange. |
Doh! They've sold out since I looked at the website just a couple days ago apparently. |
+1 on Gene Malkoff's bulbs! Just got one for my 6P, and after using it for two days will be ordering two more to replace the bulbs in my weaponlights. |
For the P60 Surefires, there are a ton of options. The Malkoff is among the best, but there are lots of cheaper ones too. Here's a post with a bunch of info and comparisons, including how to make the cheaper drop-ins work with your G2: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=20&t=367207 Other good sources inclued BOG: www.bugoutgearusa.com/leddrmo.html
The main LED upgrade market is for Surefire P60 style drop-ins because of the huge installed base and the modular aspect. There are also lost of upgrades for standard C and D cell lamps, but those aren't used in tac lights, so nobody bothers with them here. The Pentagon doesn't appear to have any LED drop-ins available. The best bet would be to sell the Pentagon while you still can, before the LED revolution makes them worthless, and buy a Surefire LED or a G2/6P or similar and a drop-in module. Incandescent tac lights are rapidly going the way of the vinyl record. |
