As far as I can tell (im no flashlight expert), one of the big differences between personal lights and weapon lights is the presence of a step in the flashlight body that stops the batteries from jamming forward into the rear of the lamp. So, I took apart one of my surefires and did some measuring. There is ample wall thickness in the appropriate location to cut an annular groove and install a spiraloc ring and a washer. This allows the batteries to be captured in the flashlight body by the tailcap. When you remove the bezel and lamp, the batteries will not fall out the front. This also stops the batteries from recoiling forward when weapon mounted, or from the light being dropped on it's bezel. So, my question is, would this upgrade be something that people are interested in? To really do it right, I would need to make some special jaws for my lathe and grind a proper groving tool. If there was interest, I could do this and offer the upgrade as a service. I did a couple of my 6p's and it works great. |

That is part of it. The other part is letting the bulb ride on a cushion or spring system so that the recoil doesn't transfer directly to the filament and give you lights out. I would argue that this is more important of a feature than the battery block. For a surefire P-xx bulb series light, you can use the Z32 or M2 heads for their bulb cushioning effect, then add the battery block and you would have a high recoil weapon grade light. On an AR with its low recoil, I don't think the battery block is going to have as much value as a shock isolated bezel. In something like a 12gauge you want the battery block. |

from what I understand that is a big part of making it suitable for weapons along with the shock isolated bezel. If you can get it done right and at a good price I think it would be great for people who want to use a 6P ect... for a weapon mounted light. I actually tried something similar with some rubber gaskets and it worked ok but something more solid would certainly be much better |
