I have a Strion that I carry on my duty belt for those times when I get out of the car in a hurry, and find myself in the dark without the big mag lite.  It is pretty bright for its size, is very well made, and I love the fact that I can throw it in the cradle every other night to keep it charged.  But, I prefer non-rechargeable lights on rifles.  Reason being, the Strion uses a Li-Ion battery, that is well suited to shallow discharges and brief uses, and is really intended to be off and on the charger quite regularly.  Many times, my AR light may sit in the rifle case, without being active for 2-3 weeks.  With the Li-Ion, it loses its charge slowly over a period of time, and I fear that it may sit around for 3 weeks in the rifle case, and when I need it, it won't be able to do the job.

It would be nice to have a rechargeable on a training rifle, that you use the light quite a bit on, and I supppose if you were consistent about charging that Strion every three days or so, it could work out for you.  But, there again, you need a mount system that would be a quick and simple removal, so you can fit the light in the charging cradle regularly.

Sounds about what  I was thinking as well.  I was'nt too sure about running a rechargable light on a weapon.  If you're in the field it could get real difficult to stop and charge your batteries.

We used to mount the Stinger chargers in some of the patrol cars when I was at Ford doing the police conversions. Perhaps they have some sort of car charger as well. Anywhere from under the dash to the driveshaft tunnel to the partition and I'm sure anyone could find many more clever/convinent places to mount one.

Lithium ion batteries will last more than three or for days without a charge.

They have the same type of charging cradle as the Stinger.  Just a smaller version, a baby brother.  Same cords though.

Yes, they will still perform, but they are not at 100% capacity after several days.  After a few weeks, I would hate to have one work for 25 minutes, then go dead, becasuse I didn't charge it.

Check the Streamlight web site in the "new products" section.  IIRC they are now selling a rechargeable Strion with mount for rifle mounting.  It is similar to the Thunder Ranch Rifle Illumination kit system, except provides a Strion instead of TL-3.

I decided against trying the Strion I have, so I ordered up a Pentagon X2 w/ the hard coat anodizing.  I'm going to use a Daniel Defense 1" mount.
