Is constant on necessary on a weapon light? How often do you guys use it? Is there anything wrong with only having momentary activation? |
| Short burst is more ideal because the light is giving your position away any time you have it activated, you should be changing your position after every flash. However, constant on does have it's place, there are times when you may not have to use the light in a threatening situation so the constant feature is nice. Also, the constant feature can be nice for LE use, we've had officers mention that having the constant on feature was an asset once they had their suspect apprehended and/or giving them the ability to free up a hand for radio use or other. |
| I use a Surefire M952XM07 on my M4. For my purposes I need both the constant on and momentary switches. As Brightflashlights already stated when my team enters a house, building, etc we train to strobe the light to not only disorient the occupants but also to hide our exact locations. The constant on is used primarily once the house, building has been cleared and we are doing a secondary search or if I am posted on a suspect that is in custody I would just leave the light on his/her person. Having both options, at least for my type of work, is necessary. |
