i recieved my TLR-1 today. and for people thinking about buying it i thought i would post some pics, because when i decided to buy it i had no idea what/how it functions.

the package

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y225/silversilvia/tlr3.jpg

the battery cover hinge is made out of metal, the switch toggles CW for constant on, an CCW for momentary. i mounted it in front of a vertical grip and if u mount it too close u can accidently switch it off.

don't laugh, my only gun with a rail. u can push on the knob if u loosen it a bit to quickly detatch it. to attach it u push the knob and slap it on, once on the rail u tighten the knob down, it sits securely and even on this P22 where the section of the rails didn't fall into the notch it is tight  (it hooks to one rail notch). thus u cannot slide it off, u have to push to release the rail clamps.

sorry for the dirty walls. this is comparing the TLR-1 (left) rated at 80 lumens, to a surefire P6 rated at 65 lumens (right). beam is whiter, but round the same intensity.

Good review.  Does the screw head stick out the side as much as it looks?  It seems like it would be out a little more than ideal.  But then I haven't had a chance to play with it.

Thanks for the review.

the screw head is probably 3-4mm high. it doesn;t stick out pass the rounded bottom. i was really surprized how bright the beam and its color compared to a 6P

Does the TLR attach as easily on an AR as it does the pistol?  Does anyone have a TLR-2 mounted on an AR?  How does the laser function work if anyone has the TLR-2?  Does anyone hace AR pics with a TLR to add?  Thanks.

How does this  TLR output compare to the 6 volt Surefire weapon lights like M95x?

How suitible is the TLR for mounting on a carbine?

I am currently looking at the Surfire Scout Light variations which use the LU60 bezel and I was wondering if the TLR might be a better option...

Yojimbo,

I have a Scout Light with the LU60 bezel on my SBR and I have the new Streamlight TLR also.  I was thinking of putting the TLR on my SBR but I really like the fact that I can and do use a P61 lamp in my Scout.  The P61 lamp puts out 125 lumens and has a much better throw outdoors.  True the run time on the P61 lamp is only about 20 min but I don't use it that often and when I do, not for long sustained periods.  For now the TLR will stay on my Springfield TRP Operator and the Scout on my shorty AR.

Thanks MadDog, that's along the lines of how I was thinking of setting up my scout light.

Yojimbo,

I found a picture of my Scout light with the larger LU60 bezel and P61 lamp but unfortunately I didn't frame the picture very well or get a close-up.
