Does anyone have a light mounted on an M1a & if so how do you have it mounted?  I have a Scout model & was trying to figure out a way to mount a light.  It looks like the best way is to add a small section of rail & mount it that way.

Also, can the Pentagon & Surefire lights stand the shock from the  .308?  As always, pictures would be great.  Thanks guys.

As a CA resident, the most tactical rifle I have is my M1A, so I have long wrestled with this question.  I bought a few stocks from http://www.fredsm14stocks.com/...he has very good prices and you can mess with the rail setup.

I also did what I saw a contractor did over in Iraq.  I bought a barrel mount setup for a tactical light from Surefire.  It consists of a very simple clamp that mounts to the barrel and has a piece of rail underneath--I think it is called the M14 mount actually but you have to verify that.  It is small enough that it will mount to my SOCOM 16.  Be warned, this is about $50 with a police/military discount from Surefire.

PM me if you have any other questions.

I ran into the same issue with my Scout Squad rifle.. I used the GG&G mount for AR-15 handguards and just drilled the stock. You have to use caution that it clear and locktite the screws down for obvious reasons.  Aim small....

I ran across this a few days ago, seems to be a good option.
